Dockan area

Dockan – where Malmö meets the sea

In the middle of the Öresund region, in a historic part of Malmö, Dockan takes shape. An area that displays the new Malmö and which has been adapted for both European companies and Nordic residents. The area has been gradually transformed from industrial buildings to a mixed urban environment.

Dockan Exploatering AB was formed in 2000 to drive the development of the Dockan area. Wihlborgs, JM and Peab each own a third of the company, which in turn owns the unexploited land on Dockan. The idea is that the area will consist of half of commercial premises and half of housing. Wihlborgs is responsible for the development of the commercial portfolio at Dockan and JM and Peab are developing the homes at Dockan.

History

When Kockums began its shipbuilding industry in Västra Hamnen at the beginning of the 20th century, it was the start of an era that lasted for almost a hundred years. The harbor has been in use since the end of the 18th century, but it was not until Kockum’s international expansion that it was expanded to a large extent with many new constructions.

During most of the 20th century, Kockums shipyard operated in the area, which today is carefully transformed into a vibrant marine district. Let’s take a brief look back at a unique district where the city’s pulse meets the sound of the sea.
